Predicting Of Traffic Jams

The giant of computer industry, the corporation IBM, has developed new software that can predict the occurrence of traffic jam about an hour before it happens. The data from this system will give drivers an opportunity to change a route they planned to avoid traffic jams and save much fuel, time and nerves. Using predictive program modeling, software uses a combination of data in real time from sensors and cameras installed on roads. Adding to the weather forecast and statistics gathered over many years, the system is able to issue a forecast with an extremely high percentage of probability.

Nokia Patents The Technology Of Self-charging Batteries

Nokia has patented a new technology that will significantly extend the period of autonomic life for mobile devices, through conversion of kinetic energy into electrical. The mobile phone recharging element has the following scheme of operation: the board and accumulator are placed on a rigid frame attached to the body of a mobile phone through one or more piezoelectric elements. Thus any movements and vibrations of rolling compartment cause the generation of electric charges. These charges are redirected to the battery. This will hardly substitute a full charge of device from the network, but the time of work in autonomic mode will be extended uniquely. Unfortunately, at this moment it’s just a patent application and in fact it may take many years before we’ll see a workable phone Nokia, charged by using kinetic energy or piezoelectricity.

Expanding this concept the representatives of IBM Research announced a new set of hardware and software development, Mote Runner, that will allow developers to connect any device to the Internet. Mote Runner is an electronic node of the system of wireless sensors that collects information and transmits collected data to the network for further processing. It can be used to link any devices into a single system by wireless connection with a single management interface. Software for Mote Runner took a few cycles of optimization that allows its implementation in terms of limited hardware of tiny microprocessors and leaves a rich set of functionality.
