New Holographic Technology

You are not seeing a hologram picture. It is different because the picture is not formed on a real three dimensional object. The picture that you see here is done on a computer.

This new technology is being developed at Osaka Kansai University. It could be considered to be the new type of holograms, it’s called CG images. These images have a resolution of up to 128K x 64K. However, you need a computer with 100 GB of memory to process all data because this image has a very high resolution.

Some of the technologies, such as Pixar, PDI, or other CG movies are completely made in 3D. Certainly, it would be red monochrome if it is made now, and you will have to wait few years to get it, but the idea of the first holographic film excites us. These 2D films that were converted to 3D are really great, so just imagine how cool a real 3D holographic movie will be.

Find out this new technology on the forthcoming SIGGRAPH 2010 in Los Angeles.
